Acute Care

A 22 bed acute Medical Unit is located on the second floor of the hospital in Listowel and a 16 bed acute Medical Unit plus 6 close observation and cardiac monitoring beds are located on the second floor of the hospital in Wingham. An interdisciplinary team provides care for patients with the primary medical diagnosis of gastrointestinal disorders, respiratory and cardiovascular diseases and various other health issues.
Interdisciplinary team may include any or all of the following:
Registered Nurse and / or Registered Practical Nurse
Physiotherapist and/or physiotherapy aide
Occupational therapist
Registered Dietitian
Speech Language Pathologist
Pharmacist and pharmacy technicians
Chaplain / Community clergy
Community Care Access Centre Case Managers for discharge planning
Additional services include:
Diagnostic Imaging
Nutrition and Food Services
Building Services
Infection Prevention and Control
Occupational Health Services
The physicians and staff of LWHA request that patients bring all current medications to the hospital for Emergency Room visits, preoperative clinics and planned admissions.  To provide the best possible medication care the health care team must know about all medications taken.  This includes drugs taken by prescription and medicines purchased over the counter.  On occasion patients may have to supply their own medications such as birth control tablets, eye drops, nasal sprays, vitamins and herbal products.  For more information on Medication Reconciliation click here.
