Infection Control

Please Wash Your Hands Often! Regular hand washing helps avoid the spread of infection to patients, you, your family and others. Alcohol hand sanitizer stations are conveniently located at the main entrance and the entrance to each patient unit. Please wash or sanitize your hands before and after every patient contact, before and after eating, and after using the washroom.
Please do not visit patients if you have a cough, cold, fever, or are feeling unwell.

The goal of the Infection Prevention and Control Program is the prevention and control of hospital acquired infection in patients, health care workers, volunteers and vistors. This is achieved through:
  • Hand Hygiene campaign
  • Screening of patients to prevent spread of, i.e. C. difficile, MRSA, VRE
  • Isolation of patients with confirmed or suspected infections
  • Environmental cleaning
  • Sterilization of equipment
  • Policies and procedures
  • Maintaining standards of infection control during construction, renovation and routine maintenance
  • Ongoing education for staff, physicians and volunteers
  • Education for patients, families and visitors
  • Public Patient Safety Reporting to Ministry of Health and Long Term Care and posting of rates on the hospital website
RememberHAND HYGIENE remains the single, most important action to prevent spread of infection!
